I found the plans for this project online on thingverse.com. My project consisted of 30 S shaped pieces that when put together right for a "frabjous structure". When I downloaded the file it only gave me one of the pieces, so I had to put it in a illustrator document and make 29 copies of it. After the pieces were cut by the laser I had to assemble the structure. After many hours of trial and error I got the general understanding of the structure down and used the internet to compare and make final touches to make sure I had all the pieces correct.
I learned that you can download illustrator files online and not everything needs to be made by me. Besides for that I didn't learn many more skills about illustrator or the laser engraver. I did although learn some patients and problem solving skills. It took a very long time getting the pieces of my project to fit together and I didn't want to give up on it and I'm glad I didn't because it turned out pretty awesome. |
I love music and I specifically enjoy my classic rock bands. I decided to fill the water bottle with names and logos of my favorite bands. To do this I opened my illustrator document and sized it correctly. From here I googled the name of the band I wanted and then "black and white logo". In the example above I used AC/DC. Once I found a logo I liked I copied and pasted it into the illustrator document and positioned it how I thought it would fit best.
During this portion of the laser project I not only learned that it was possible to print on a rounded object but how to put in and take out the rotational jig to do so. I gained experience using it that could lead to many other future projects using a laser engraves and the rotational jig. |
While creating my notebook cover I wanted to make something that was fitting to me and I could use for anything. On the front I incorporated my name and the outline of Wisconsin the the word Home engraved in the bottom. I put Bucky Badger on the back and cut out what would have been black in a normal picture of him.
On my first attempt making this project the outline of my notebook didn't cut out. I'm not sure why it did this but I went back and fixed it and on trial 2 and it worked correct. During this portion of the project I learned how to use a spiral hole puncher to put a spiral hinge on a notebook and I learned that sometimes it takes more than one try to get something down. |
